Deconstruction of Music Magazine Contents Pages

Music Magazine Flat Plans

In this post I display and explain my flat plans that I have created for my music magazine. I chose to create a flat plan as a template on how I would construct my own music magazine and a plan to also keep track of for my music magazine to remain professional looking.

Here is the first flat plan I will display for my music magazine:

This is the flat plan for my contents page. I chose to create each section of my music magazine in layers as I know I will be using Abode Photoshop to be creating my music magazine and that uses a system of layers to create new items of information that fall on top of each other to make the software more flexible and easy for users to manipulate when creating items of information and so I planned out which layers I want each specific part of information in my music magazine in organization as it allows me to be able to easily manipulate what sections of information I want for my music magazine. My inspiration for my composition of my cover magazine, contents page and double page spread comes from analyzing and deconstructing past, established, professional music magaizines as seen within my music magazine deconstructions to give me inspiration into what a professional music magazine would look like. What I like about my flat plans is that they do look like they will hold a composition for a realistic professional looking magazine however I do feel that the organization with my layers may change to get the magazine to look like my flat plans and for easier manipulation of the magazine I may have to change a few layers around so that the magazine will not look unprofessional.

Peer Assessment Draft 2

Ok so In this post I had another peer assessment to check how far I am in progress on the research part of this project.

Here is an image of my peer assessors notes:

I agree with what my peer assessor Ellie's notes in that I need to add more content and fix broken links by embedding the links so that the links to the presentation work for the blog making it easier to access all content for my blog. I am also quite happy with the grade 3 I have been given by Ellie as although I may need to imp roe the blog it also means that the quality I have within the content of my topics on posts within my blog as a good standing quality and therefore my grade will improve once I have added more content and fixed my broken links.

Facial Expression Theory

When a person experiences an emotion it can also trigger an involuntary reaction on the face, which is shown by, changes within the face due to the facial muscles reaction alongside the emotion triggered. With these slight facial muscles adjusting to the emotion within the situation we can generate over 10,000 expressions which also gives me a variety of emotion to work with for expression of models within my magazine.

Here are examples of facial images:

Camera shots

The purpose of camera shots is to display an image, which attracts an audience of the genre of a magazine in to read that magazine. Camera shots are there to show a variety of pictures so that looking at the same models and environments do not become repetitive and therefore become an eyesore to the audience reading the magazine.

There are multiple types of camera shots to display models and environments and I will be explaining these shots in detail in this post.

The first type of shot I will be explaining is a long shot, and a long shot will have a models full body within the shot. The use of a long shot is usually to show a model within an environment and displaying how that model interacts with the environment. Here is an example of a long shot

This long shot has a model, in this example an American football player interacting with his environment that in this example is a football pitch, notice that the models full body is within the image displaying in detail the gesture and interaction of his environment with his body. This method of a long shot is supposed to give a motivational effect upon the audience of that magazine, as if they want to get up and start playing American football as well due to the energetic gesture of the model.

The second type of shot I will be explaining is the extreme long shot, and an extreme long shot is usually the same as the long shot except the main central model or icon is very distant and far away from the camera. Here is an example of an extreme long shot.

In this example we have an iconic image of the Hollywood logo within the hills, its environment surrounds notice the icon is far away from the camera and it. This method of an extreme long shot is to make an advertising standpoint and to make the audience want to go and see this icon with their own eyes.

The third type of camera shot I will be explaining is the medium shot. The medium shot will usually contain the upper torso upwards of an icon within an environment and sometimes there is an interaction within that environment. The use of a medium shot is to make the image feel personal towards the audience as if they were looking at the model face to face at a comfortable distance. Here is an example of a medium shot.

In this example we have a medium shot of a model looking towards the audience through the camera and playing chess, only showing one side of the board. This method of a medium shot is to show the personal intimacy and interaction between the audience and the model as if you were playing chess with the model, and the purpose of this specific shot is to gain attention and curiosity of the audience to pick up the magazine to find out why the model is playing chess and more importantly why he is playing chess with you.

The fourth type of shot I will explain is the close up shot. The close up shot is a shot that usually contains the head and shoulders of a model with little background showing. The use of a close up shot is to be even more intermediate with the audience and the model than a medium shot whilst maintaining a level of comfort for the audience.

In this close up shot we have a model looking towards the camera with only her head and shoulders visible. This method of a close up shot is to achieve a personal intimacy but also to question why we are looking down on the model through the camera lens, giving the audience an enigma code to generate interest and find out inside within the magazine.

The fifth type of shot I will explain is the extreme close up shot. The extreme close up shot is just a shot of a models face or part of a face (such as the eyes for example) so close that we can see all details of the models face with little to no background. The effect of this sot is to dominate the audience with an emotion seen as an expression on the models face to set a tone or atmosphere for the audience to expect within the magazine.

In this close up shot we have an extreme close up of a models face with a happy expression. This method of this shot conveys a tone of happiness within the picture and will give the audience the expectation that what they will see or read will be happy due to the happy expression on the persons face.

The sixth type of shot I will explain is a low angle shot. The low angle shot is the camera places at a height lower than the model then the camera pointing upwards looking towards the model that is looking down at the camera. The effect of the low angle shot is to invoke, an instinctual emotion upon the audience to gain some sort of shock factor and to gain attention and interest in that method.

In this example is a low angle shot of a model looking downward towards the camera with a smug expression towards the camera and therefore the audience. The effect of this camera shot is to generate an enigma code for the audience to gain attention through curiosity towards the magazine enough to purchase it, why is the model so smug? Why is there a lot of instruments and apparatus around him? Why are we looking up at him? These sorts of questions generate curiosity for the audience who will be thinking those questions enough to  buy the magazine to solve the enigma code.

The seventh type of shot I will explain is the high angle shot. The high angle shot is a shot of the camera at height taller than the model the looking down on the model. This method of high angle shot is to make the audience feel powerful against the model as they look down upon the model and also to sympathize with the model. It is important to note this shot is usually used within films, and rarely used to advertise with magazine magazines, however it still can be used to set a cheeky tone with a music magazine.

In this close up shot we have a model looking upwards, towards the camera with only her head and shoulders visible. This is to set a tongue in cheek tone to the magazine as the model has a very cheeky, cocky expression when looking at the camera as if she is rebelling or arguing against the camera with her expression and body posture. The effect is supposed to leave a cheeky yet flirty tone aimed towards the audience to generate interest and curiosity to read the magazine.

Images for music magazine project draft 1

In this post I will show you the image's I have taken for use for my music magazine project. The purpose of creating these photos is to create a variety of images as material to use for my music magazine which fit under the genre and conventions of rock.

What I like about these photos is that I have used an enviroment of steel containers that would fulfill my audience expectation because heavy metallic objects are associated with the rock genre and it is also very relatable towards my socio-economic groups which could gain even more attention with its down to earth approach at gaining my audiences attention. I also like the amount of poses I put my  model through as it shows a variety of gestures that could gain my audiences attention, and I also like the lighting from of the images as it casts shadows in appealing ways that could also catch audience attention. What I am unsatisfied with is the clean-cut appearance of my model as I feel my models apperance goes against audiences expectation. What i feel is that I may have to take more photos of other models but in similar locations to make the magazine look more professional.
